Hamilton Weston

Historic wallpapers from an archive dating back to the 1690s, alongside collaborations with some of Britain's finest artists and designers.

Hamilton Weston was founded in 1981 by interior designer Georgina Hamilton and architectural historian Robert Weston. Robert had spent years salvaging and recording wallpapers for the Greater London Council's Historic Buildings Division, rescuing fragile fragments from the rubble of period buildings - and those finds became the heart of the collection. Their reproductions now hang in stately homes, careful restorations and period film and television sets, among them Jane Austen's House at Chawton and JMW Turner's Sandycombe Lodge.

Collaboration is now a major part of their work. Botanical painter Flora Roberts's papers celebrate the seasons and the beauty of flowers. The late artist Hugh Dunford Wood, who once ran a fashion business hand-painting men's ties, created contemporary classics with a soft dignity. Interior designer Adam Bray gives the stripe a modern twist in an award-winning collection, and illustrator and printmaker Alice Pattullo draws on historical textiles and the traditional English landscape.

Every paper can be custom coloured, and the studio develops bespoke designs from clients' own fabrics, prints and drawings.
