Teyssier

Printed and woven fabrics and wallpapers, inspired by Kate Teyssier's archive of several thousand historic textiles.

Kate Teyssier began collecting textiles as a child, and by the age of thirteen she had established her own collection. Her archive now runs to more than 2,500 pieces - from 6th-century Coptic textiles and 17th-century silk velvets to Spitalfields silks, 19th-century printed ledgers and early hand-blocked wallpaper samples - and it is the inspiration behind every Teyssier design.

After studying historical handwoven textiles and ten years in interior decorating, Kate became archivist for a national textile museum, and has lectured for the V&A and consulted for English Heritage and the National Trust. From her Essex studio she works with family-run heritage printers and weavers across Europe, recreating the feel of traditional techniques with contemporary methods.

The collection ranges from printed linens to woven flamestitches and pure Irish linens, with custom colours available. Her newest designs are Elodie, inspired by the romance of an Edwardian summer, and Netherfield Stripe, which captures the charm of the Georgian period. Kate is also co-founder of LineUp.
